Ancient Age 10 Star

This huge 1.75L Ancient Age 10 Star is unusually bottled in plastic rather than glass and comes in at a higher proof (90 Proof) than the normal Ancient Age (80 proof). It is aged for 6 years in charred oak barrels, though it no longer carries a 10-year age statement as it did many years ago. This followed the bourbon boom which depleted all of their stocks.

Whilst Ancient Age is bottled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, you may be surprised to know that the brand Age International, owned by Takara Shuzo Ltd, of Japan owns Ancient Age. Age International also technically owns other Buffalo Trace products such as Blanton’s Single Barrel, Rock Hill Farm and Elmer T. Lee are aged and bottled at the Buffalo Trace facilities, but supposedly do not use the Buffalo Trace Mashbill #1.  Age International own what is commonly referred to as Buffalo Trace Mashbill #2, a higher rye mashbill for their own products. Who Knew!

Expect faint cherries and butterscotch on the nose to start that gradually build, with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. You may also catch the fruity notes of the Buffalo Trace Cherry, on the palate.
